Little Rock’s Creative Corridor is an area along Main Street where arts and culture anchor a vibrant, mixed-use place in the center of the city. The project is revitalizing Main Street one block at a time, using economic development stimulated by the arts rather than a traditional retail base. This unique, work-live environment was started with a 2011 Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The plan, created by the University of Arkansas Community Design Center and Marlon Blackwell Architects, has received awards from the American Institute of Architects and The American Society of Landscape Architects. With funding by a grant from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), all of the pedestrian and environmentally friendly streetscapes in the 100, 200, 300 and 500 blocks of Main Street contain low impact development features such as bioswales, porous pavers, rain gardens, and other biodiverse vegetation. Funding for a wide variety of art and lighting installations for the Corridor is provided by ArtPlace America and Educational Foundation of America. Explore the corridor’s design features on your way to restaurants, bars and perhaps a show at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Arkansas’ premier regional theater. – Description courtesy of creativecorridorlittlerock.Perch CMS (Perch CMS (WordPress)).com
