Rock Region METRO Director of Operations Donna Bowers was inducted into the American Public Transportation Association Leadership APTA program Class of 2020 this week at the association’s annual conference in New York City.

Bowers is one of 35 public transit professionals to have been selected to participate in the year-long program, which is designed to help participants develop their skills and prepare them for senior and executive leadership roles. The Class of 2020 comprises professionals representing the United States and Canada and is the largest class in the program’s history. Bowers is the first METRO employee to be inducted into a Leadership APTA class while employed at METRO.

Participants engage in skill-building workshops, conferences, executive roundtables, team leadership projects, teleconferences, online meetings and web-based events throughout the upcoming year. Topics covered include lobbying, the federal legislative process, union negotiations, media relations, presentation skills, workforce development, Americans with Disabilities Act compliance and procurement, with classes taught by highly tenured professionals both within and outside of the transit industry.

“We are thrilled Donna was selected for the Leadership APTA program,” said METRO Executive Director Charles D. Frazier, Class of 2018 alumnus. “We know she will contribute to the success of her fellow classmates and are looking forward to applying the knowledge she gains to our agency processes.”
